International Puppet theatre Celebration in Tampere!
MUKAMAS 2024 – International Puppet Theatre Festival will take place from 11 to 15 September in Tampere. Teatteri Mukamas’ own festival celebrates its 25th anniversary this year! Now it is allowed to be surprised by the versatility of the puppet theatre, because the performances leave even the performers breathless. Shakespeare turns into a silent movie-like adaption and inside the rescue blanket you can find a whole world! There will be top performances for adults and children from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany and Slovenia. The festival also brings together the best of national puppet theatres.
Canadian theatre La Fille du Laitier, performing for the first time in Finland, delights adults with performance Macbeth Muet. Slovenian puppet theatre Lutkovno Gledališče Ljubljana is visiting with no less than two shows, of which Tunnel, which explores the boundaries of light and dark, is also suitable for children. In the adults’ performance Session Bulgakov a classic novel Satan arrives in Moscow’s juicy subjects come alive before our eyes, sometimes as object theatre or as a sheer concert. The French theatre group XZART and the Danish Theatre Madam Bach offer heartwarming children’s performances. Karoline Hoffmann from Germany makes a sparkling exploration with her performance Ding.
Among national puppet theatres, Tampere’s stages will be conquered by Teatteri Hevosenkenkä from Espoo, Puppet Theatre Sampo from Helsinki, Tehdas Teatteri from Turku and Haihara’s puppet theatre, Anne Välinoro and festival organizer Teatteri Mukamas from Tampere. In addition to the Mukamas’ home stage in Pispala, Hällä stage, Finlayson area and Haihara Art Center will serve as festival venues.
Festival programme also includes various free events, e.g. performances, workshops, a lecture on art therapy and a festival club.
The 25th anniversary festival MUKAMAS 2024 shakes classic works from their dust, offers a gentle stream of consciousness, fun events for all ages and, above all, unique opportunities to see great international performances. Puppet theatre is alive and well!
