Hoitava Valo – Lecture On Metal Color Light Therapy

Art and color light therapist Anna-Liisa Tarvainen presents a new form of color therapy.

Metallic color light therapy is a new form of color therapy that uses glass panels colored with metal oxides. The treatment takes place in a darkened room: the therapy glass is placed in front of a window, allowing sunlight to filter through the glass and create a vivid, very intense and impressive color experience. This therapy is used as a supportive treatment for many illnesses, e.g. sleep problems, anxiety, stress, migraine, burnout, cancer, asthma, mental disorders…

Art therapist Anna-Liisa Tarvainen talks about the development and use of the therapy. She has completed a 3-year MVV therapist’s studies and is the first to practice it in Finland.

‘COLOUR & LIGHT – Finnish Metallivärivaloterapia ry’, based in Tampere, has been established to support the activities in Finland.

Anna-Liisa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Scenography in 1987 from Aalto University in Helsinki. She was founding Teatteri Mukamas in 1979 in Tampere and worked there as a set designer, puppeteer and, among other things, as a sales secretary until 2001. During this time, she was involved in organizing puppet theatre courses for teachers, kindergarten teachers and adult groups at the workers’ college, as well as puppet theatre workshops for children. Anna-Liisa also worked as an art education project director at the Saukonpuisto Special School in Tampere in 1995–1997. 

She has made puppets for TV-2’s Pikku Kakkonen programs, including Jänis Neponen. Anna-Liisa worked as the secretary of UNIMA Finland and the magazine’s editor in 1993–2000. 

In 2001, she took a new direction in her life and went to study art therapy at Hibernia College in England. She wrote her master’s degree on the topic of “Autism, Play and Sensory Development”. Her artistic final project was “I Listen”, a poetic painting with colors and sounds using puppetry. In the fall of 2023, she graduated as a metallic color light therapist.
